This Portland client did not want another white kitchen. They opened up the home, expanded the kitchen, and wanted cabinetry with real presence: black, custom designed, and built for how the family actually cooks.
A bold finish raises the stakes. Black shows everything, so the drawer fronts, the reveals, and the lighting all have to be exact. And an expanded footprint only pays off if the storage works harder than the old kitchen ever did.
The spec: Maker Series Evereve doors with slab drawer fronts in a Quiet Black finish. All drawers below the counter, so nothing disappears into the back of a base cabinet. Floating shelves with built-in lighting to lift the black against the white oak floors. Custom built-ins to carry the finish to the fireplace wall.

Why all drawers
Every base cabinet in this kitchen pulls out to you. Pots, pans, and pantry goods ride in full-extension drawers behind slab fronts, so the deep corners of a bigger kitchen never turn into dead storage.
Lighting built in
The floating shelves carry their own lighting. Against Quiet Black cabinetry, that band of light does the work of a wall of uppers, keeping the expanded kitchen bright without giving up the drama.
